Pearson Community Technical College, which counts the NFL’s Tyreek Hill among its distinguished list of alumni, has been accredited by the Community Institutions of Higher Learning Authority. Gaining SACS accreditation was the final step in PCTC finally legitimizing its place in the pantheon of areawide institutions of higher learning.
The college had been working on CIHLA accreditation for the last year and finally received word Friday afternoon that CIHLA had bestowed the institution with its new status. College leadership hopes that the news will provide a boost in enrollment. Currently, about 175 students attend the college through its online curriculum. Plans include a brick and mortar location within the next two years. The college needs at least 250 students before it can justify the need for a physical location.
PCTC offers 10 degree tracks, including old school bus/van repair, naturalization application processing, refining acetone/anhydrous ammonia/lithium, obtaining pseudo ephedrine, single-color tattooing, and how to pass a pre-employment drug test. Most credits obtained from PCTC are transferrable to other area institutions.
“We are excited to see what the future holds for Pearson Community Technical College. We have been striving for CIHLA accreditation for a long time. Now that we reached this milestone, we expect to become a major player in higher education in South Georgia. This is the best news we could receive,” stated Bishop Sarria, PCTC President.
PCTC is accepting applications for Summer semester. There is currently no application fee.
